The Faith of a Christian Street Vendor by Dr. Pat

An elderly Christian woman I met on one of my trips to Cairo, Egypt made a very meager living selling small goods, such as newspapers and soft drinks, on the street. She stored all her wares in a small shed about the size of a phone booth.

Normally, “street vendors” like herself display their products by laying them out on cardboard on the sidewalk. This lady did the same, but because she was a Christian, the Muslims in the neighborhood forbade her to do so. So she was forced to keep all her wares, packed from floor to ceiling, in her little shed.

When Pastor J first stopped by her shed he noticed the many Christian pictures she had pasted on the door. He asked to buy a cola and heard her story. He found out she was destitute.  So Pastor J gave her what money he had and brought me back another day to meet her. When I looked into her little shed, it was full to the top with her goods. She is such a sweet little lady.  She was so pleased that we had come to visit and buy something from her. We bought 2 bottles of Coke and left her with a lot of extra money.

This lady is so proud of her faith in Jesus. Her neck is ringed with many crosses and Christian symbols. She eagerly displays the picture of Jesus that she has tattooed on her arm. She told me she loves Jesus. If she would deny her faith, the Muslims would leave her alone, but she will not deny Jesus and so she suffers.

Please pray for this sweet lady, for her health as she is elderly, for her safety, and for her continued faithfulness.
